A special Friend, Pesos Pesos is actually a Malamute/German Shepard mix. She was an extremely confused litle girl at 11 months old when I got her. She and her much larger brother Spike (75 lbs -105 lbs) where in the "care" of a meth-amphetamine junkie who had absolutely no business owning any animal. I could write a book about the torment these beautifull creatures endured but i don,t want to depress any fellow dog lovers. I still start tearing up these 16 years later remembering the things a mutual friend relayed to me about what went on to them. Unfortunately Spike became irreversably mean and had to be put down ( he was taken by someone else ) but Pesos became the gentlest dog I,ve ever known . Another dog can attack her and she,ll endure it untill it gets too intense and then "put it in it,s place" but not to the point of really hurting it. It has happened very rarely however because she has always had such a non-aggresive way about her . Her aproach is a mix of confidence and sweetness. Even cats realize she wants to do no harm. She also has been a very interesting dog because of her mix. Most of the time she is very much the shepard . Very easy to train new things and quickly responds to my wishes . But also the malamute shines through frequently with the "You talkin to me ? Do I know you?" attitude that I personally find very endearing but frustrating at times! Ya all probably know exactly what I,m referring to and I,m visualizing some knowing grins about now. Also as she ages she has become more and more Malamute in both demeanor and appearance. She was very dark faced when younger with just a hint of the Malamute mask but now at 16 yrs she has gradually fully whitened in the face and unless people see the cloudy eyes they think she,s a middle aged purebred! She still does our standard 5 mile morning walks and 2 mile evening strolls and tolerates my newly aquired 6 year old male Cairn Terrier (another sad case critter that is coming aound great) And has breathed new life into this Love of my Life!!!!! Believe me you'd love her if you met her; Zanger
