Log Cabin My name is Don, And at one time about 18 years ago, my wife and I were fortunate enough to own three Huskies- two purebred Malamutes, and one Purebred Siberian. My first Malamute was named Aniak and We got him when he was just 6 weeks old. We lived just east of Moscow, Idaho, and had such wonderful times with him , going up in the woods. Sadly, the first spring after we got him, he got out of our fenced backyard, and started chasing ground squirrels. He darted across the highway and was hit and killed by a car. (miss him terribly) My next Malamute was named Denali, and came from the same parents as Aniak. He was the prettiest dog I've ever seen. His parents were both show dogs- neither had ever seen a harness, let alone been in one, and his attitude showed this fact. He could act so dumb!! He gave everyone the impression HE KNEW HE WAS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, so he didn't have to do anything but look good! Shortly after we got Denali, we got a Siberian Husky pup, which we named Aleyska. Her parents were Championship Sled dogs. Her inbred aggressiveness came out as she became a juvenile, and soon she became the dominant among the two. On their first birthday, I went out into the forest and cut down some small pine trees "Pecker Poles", as they were known around the area and made them a log cabin doghouse. You'd have thought they had died and went to heaven when they saw that. They would play 'King of the Mountain' on the roof during the summer. The funniest thing about Aleyska was she had to watch Sergeant Preston every Sunday morning on TV. Neither Me, or my Wife ever tried to train Her, She did this on her own. Even to the point of bugging us every Sunday morning until We changed the channel to her show. She would then sit in front of the TV and watch it until it was over then she was happy until the next Sunday. She also was a little paranoid about "the other dog in the mirror". We used to have a dresser mirror in the master bedroom, and she would run down the hallway into our room and jump on the bed. At this point, she would see the 'other dog' and take off for the adjacent bedroom, only to find it had disappeared. After awhile, she got to a routine of running down the hall, until she got to our bedroom door, where she would come to a screeching halt and crawl into our room, because she was just sure another dog was in there. In the short time I had all three of them, I acquired SO MANY MEMORIES of these beautiful creatures, I'm still in awe!!!
