Escape from Dogatraz We own two purebred malamutes and one mix. Well our youngest, and largest, is a male, Dakota. We live on a very quiet road and when we are home, turn them out for runs through the woods and yard but do not want them going across the road. They know this, but Dakota insists that he will go "visiting" as soon as we turn our backs. So one day, as punishment, we decided to lock him in his kennel and leave the others out for their play time. Dakota cried and cried. Then when we still didn't come and let him out, he pick up his fence in his mouth. Well, he couldn't figure how to hold up the fence and get out at the same time so Nikita, the female, came to the rescue. She sniffed around the bottom of the fence and door trying to find him a way out of 'prison'. (Now how's that for loyalty.) After watching this entire display, which took only a few minutes, I released him on good behavior. After this, Dakota didn't go "visiting" until our neighbor-across-the-road's daughter, who is four, called and asked if I would bring them for a visit.
