A Malamute Rescue We have Malamute that is 8 years old and she lost her friend and companion of those eight years to old age, so we thought another companion would be great. I registered with purebred rescue to adopt another Malamute, and most of the foster homes were worried how our female 8 year-old would accept another dog, she didn't at first but things are good now. The male we did adopt I drove 50 miles one way the shelter to pick up, he was filthy, bad cuts on his leg, very afraid and confused. He was 10 months old and needed a good home. He had a dietary problem we didn't have a clue about , so it took 3 months to get him well and eating right. He is the most affectionate male we have ever had, even more than our female who is very anti-social to other people and dogs. Our new dog is named Achillious, and a wonderful addition to our home. I love the breed and will continue to educate people who want to adopt, it does take special understanding and love to bring up a Malamute, but when they reach adulthood what a great dog. I really believe we were meant to rescue Achillious and give him a loving home, he thanks us every day with his looks of compassion.
